She's no air head!!

Okay, so it was Daisy’s 1st Christmas she was about 4 months old and I decided to take her to my dad’s which is 3 hrs away from where I live. The car ride was fine this wasn’t her first long trip so I wasn’t worried about it. We arrive there fine and on time.

My step-mom has a Shih Tzu named Teddy who is like King of the caslte and here comes Daisy this total air head waltzing into his home like its her own home. Well after a few little tantrums from Teddy, it was decided that it would be better if Teddy and Daisy were seperated because Teddy was showing signs that he was not tolerating Daisy and all she wanted to do was play with him (because he was all that was left after she ate all his raw hide bones.)

Well we put baby gates up to block the doorways leading to the family room and the dining room (his house makes a circle) Daisy stayed with the family and me poor Teddy sat on the other side of the gate giving us this really sad look like “Why do I have to be on this side, this is my house?” I guess the gates wouldn’t sit in the door way right so we leaned them against the door way and placed a chair to hold them up against the wall. This didn’t seem like the dogs would be smart enough to try anything Teddy just sat there pouting and Daisy played with everyone else who was in the room.

I was talking to my dad when Daisy decided to show what she’s been hiding, a sign of intelligence, I just happened to look out the corner of my eye when I saw Daisy by the door way it seemed to me she was just looking at Teddy and that was it. Well I looked again a couple seconds later and she was pulling the chair away from the door way by the cushion tied to the chair! She was gradually moving the chair so it wouldn’t make a sound and I wouldn’t notice what she was doing till it was to late. When I caught her I just simply looked at her and calmly sad her name she just froze and her eyes looked up at me. I went to put teh gate back before it could fall but Daisy yanked it and the gate fell and my dad and I had to seperate the beasts. I guess she isn’t as air headed as I thought.

What can we do?

I went to the Animal Shelter on Saturday to get me a cat. I found one that I just had to have. They told me I would have to wait until Monday to pick him up. I asked why they said he had to be fixed before I could bring him home. So I asked if he could be taken to my vet that I have used for years with my other pets. They told me no. I asked if I paid more if he could have the lazer instead of being cut they told me yes. All I had to do was call the vet by 7:30 am to let them know. Well I couldn’t get in touch with the vet at all on that Monday morning. The Animal Shelter called me at 2:15 and told me they had taken the wrong cat to get fixed. This was a bad sign already. So I asked agin if I could take the cat to my vet so he could come home that same day once agin the answer was no and there was nothing I could do but wait until Tuesday. This is after I had taken the afternoon off of work so I could try to introduce my cat to him. “I’m not to happy about that either.” So I got up this morning to call the vet to ask about the laser and they informed me quite rudly that they did not do the laser and there was nothing I could do but wait and come pick him up at 2:00.

So I got to talking with some of my frinds about the vet and they reminded me why I never to anything to them. About 5 years ago I had a bird that need its nails cliped and they where the only vet in town that would do it. When they brought him out to me 4 of his toes where bleeding also his beak was bleeding. They just acted like I was crazy for being upset that he was bleeding. And I still had to pay them $65 for doing it or I would not get my bird back. Sad to say I had to give him away after that because he hated me for puting him through it. Happy to say he has a home where he rules the roost.

So here I am now waiting to see how bad the poor kitty is going to be. I just hope he does not hate me for doing this to him. On top of all of this they told me I have to take him back in ten days to have the stiches removed. I hope My vet will be able to do this for him.  The name of the vet that I will never take an animal to is Veterinary Care in Valdosta Georgia. But if you live around here and you need a really good vet then you can call Baytree Animal Hospital.

By Liz Szabo, USA TODAY
Veterinary offices were fielding calls over the weekend from dog and cat owners concerned about a national recall of pet food blamed for causing kidney failure and death in at least 10 animals.

Menu Foods Inc., whose products are sold under dozens of brand names, announced Saturday that it was recalling 50 brands of dog food and 40 brands of cat food. The “cuts and gravy” style products, sold in cans and pouches, are marketed nationwide by retailers such as Wal-Mart, Safeway and PetSmart. Consumers kept a phone line (866-895-2708) set up by Menu Foods busy all weekend.
The Food and Drug Administration advises consumers immediately to stop using the products, listed at menufoods.com/recall, and consult their veterinarians if pets show signs of kidney failure.

In a statement on the FDA website, Menu Foods says it hasn’t discovered the cause of the problem. Complaints about animal illness coincided, however, with the introduction of an ingredient from a new supplier. Menu Foods says it has stopped using the ingredient.

“We take these complaints very seriously,” Paul Henderson, Menu Foods’ president and CEO, said in the statement. “We will do whatever is necessary to ensure that our products maintain the very highest quality standards.”

Laurie Miller, a veterinarian at the Hope Center for Advanced Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Va., says she has received “flurries” of calls; she now is treating a 2-year-old German shepherd that developed diarrhea and vomiting after eating a type of Iams dog food included in the recall.

The dog’s owners, who heard about the recall on the TV news, originally thought their pet had caught a stomach bug when he was boarded in a kennel, Miller says. The owners became frightened when the dog threw up black material that looked like blood.

Those symptoms could be caused by kidney failure, says Miller, who is running tests of the dog’s blood. The kidneys contain many tiny filters that help the body excrete toxins. A buildup of toxins can make animals feel nauseated.

Miller says the German shepherd, although initially dehydrated, has a good chance of recovery. He’s young and healthy, she says, and his owners haven’t fed him any of the food since Saturday.

I hope this will be of some help to all of us that have pets and I hope no one has lost any family member do to this problem.

My Basenjis work together to get food off the counter. They push a chair over to the counter. One will use it to climb onto the counter (the other one is not a climber) and knock the food down.

A Chained Dogs Plea

I wish someone would tell me
what it is I’ve done wrong.
why do I have to stay chained up
and left alone so long?
…the children never walk me
they always say not now.
I wish that I could please them,
won’t someone tell me how?

My Best Friend

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world,
the one that never deserts him,
the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog.
A man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and sickness -
He will sleep on the cold ground where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master’s side.
He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer,
He will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world.
He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. –
When all other friends desert he remains. -
When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces,
He is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

A Dog’s Soul

Every dog must have a soul
Somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances
Are buried with his pride
Where he decides the good and bad
The wrong way from the right,
And where his judgment carefully
Is hidden from our sight.
A dog must have a secret place
Where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that
He trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for
Himself, He cannot speak,
Rebuked, He finds within his soul
The comfort he must seek.

He’ll love, tho’ he is unloved,
And he’ll serve tho’ badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away
The times when he’s abused.

Altho’ his heart may break in two
His love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog
An understanding Soul!

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when suddenly one stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together’

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close — we two —
    these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.
