A Small Vanilla Ice Cream, Please

My cat Tiger is so silly. He will meow crazily just to go for a ride in the car, especially when we’re headed to the local Dairy Queen, where we sometimes treat him to a small vanilla ice cream. Tiger is a sweet, loving cat who usually gets what he wants. I hope you enjoyed hearing about my cat Tiger.

Bonnie & Clyde

My cats, Bonnie and Clyde, are really the Bonnie and Clyde of cats. Bonnie and Clyde were rescued after Hurricane Katrina and they’re thick as thieves, getting into plenty of mischief. They do everything together! They like to pass their time away by sitting at the front screen, together, turning their heads from side to side, watching everything that goes by. They did it for so long one day that they made themselves dizzy! Especially funny is how they work together to try to outsmart my lovebird, Spike. Spike loves to taunt the cats by chirping and sticking his head out of his cage. Bonnie and Clyde come running — tag teaming the cage — with one jumping on top of it and the other waiting at the bottom. Spike is no chicken, though. He will fly to the top of the cage to bite Bonnie, then fly to the bottom of the cage to bite Clyde. The cats run away, but within minutes are back trying to find a way to get to Spike. I suppose these two are here to keep me and Spike on our toes!

The Differences Between Jade & Cloe

My cats Jade and Cloe were so scared when we first adopted them that they shivered. We didn’t know what to name them so we named them after the Bratz dolls. They are so cute. Jade is gray and has dark gray stripes. Cloe is white with brown and black spots. Besides their looks, Jade and Cloe are different in lots of other ways, too. Cloe always meows when we come home, but I don’t think Jade knows how. Jade’s already caught a mouse, but Cloe hasn’t even tried. When you go to bed you can hear Cloe meowing. And, Jade is always tring to get into the bedroom. I love kittens and wish they didn’t have to grow up. Once they’re grown, they become cats that are too heavy to hold or won’t let you hold them at all!

Boo Boo Winkels

My cat, Boo Boo Winkels, just can’t wait for me to get home. He waits by the window and when he spots me, he runs to the door to greet me. He stands on his back legs, with his front paws up in the air, looking at me to pick him up. He won’t let me do a thing until I’ve picked him up and given him a hug. And, I know it’s not because he wants to be fed. Boo Boo has an automatic cat feeder, so I know it’s true love. He just always makes my day!

Daisy, Sam, and Karma

Daisy, Sam, and Karma

A friend of ours was in town to go grocery shopping and was drawn to the pet food aisle and looked at kitten food, but she thought to herself, “I don’t have any kittens.” Then on the way home (out in the country) she noticed a plastic bag in the ditch that was moving. She stopped to investigate and saw that there were four very tiny kittens in this bag.

She took them home and told my husband about them. So, I called that evening and asked if her girls would let me have one of the kittens. The next morning I went out to claim one, and the girls (aged 10 and 12) were waiting for me. They took me inside and picked one up and said, “We think you would like this one (!).” So I took her home and named her Daisy.

Daisy weighed 20 ounces and seemed barely old enough to eat solid food. I carried her around in the hood of my sweatshirt for a few days. My Birman, Karma, was quite offended at this intrusion, but he finally adapted.

Daisy has been making up for her missed meals ever since (three years) and now weighs more than 17 lbs. She has a beautiful long, silky coat and is very loving. She especially likes to snuggle with my husband, but since he leaves early in the moring she stays close to me until its time for breakfast.

I found Sam by looking at our local shelter’s site on the internet. They post pictures of all the animals available. He looked rather thin and uncared for in his photo, but I saw a beautiful cat waiting to emerge. I went to visit him at the shelter and he began purring as soon as I picked him up and put him on my lap. It was love at first sight. I have had him a month now and he has already filled out and his coat is much improved with good quality food. He will sit with me as long as I want to hold him and tries hard to be friendly to the others.

The Miracle We Named Diesle

DIESLE

I live in a house with my grandparent, parents and brother so sometimes I just want something that could only be mine (I was 8 at the time). My dad brought me a kitten off the street and as he said we had to “put it out of its misery.” We had tried to help it for a year but she just got worse and worse it was the only fair thing to do. At the vet’s office I cried and cried.

My mom was worried that i wouldn’t be able to deal with the pain so right after the cat was put down, my mom brought me to the humane society. She told me I could pick any cat I wanted.I looked in the cages and saw a kitten just lying there so I asked if I could hold her. It was love at first sight. I decided I wanted her and her name was going to be Tiger. She was just adorable, the only problem was that me and my brother fought for everything.Worried that we might harm her, my mom went back to the humane society and adopted another kitten. This one was supposed to be for my brother. As my mom recently told me, the people told her not to get him – he was horrible with people and very grumpy. My mom picked him up anyways, and he started purring. The lady was surprised and shocked. I guess it was just destiny! My dad named him DIESLE because he purred really loud and sounded like a diesle engine. We’d only had him for a little while when one morning he started licking my dad’s face and purring in his ear. He woke up and heard a crackling sound outside, what he thought was just rain turned out to be a roaring fire. That soon led to fear and panic. Without this miracle we still call Diesle, we might not have woken up in time to get out of the house! And even though I’m only 11, I think destiny has strange ways of talking to us, and we should never underestimate our best friends.Kindly Contributed By: Daniela

One Big Happy Family

My family and I own 15 cats (alot ?). One of them ,Baby(siamese,1 and a couple of months old), will jump onto my Dad’s shoulder (and my dad is tall) while he’s eating an apple and stare at him.So my dad gives her the apple and she starts eating it!Also her siamese brother ,Boy, likes muffins. Also if you take ur hands and position them claw-like and lower them down above Monsters head she’ll like give out a little meow untill u touch her and say “Monster Monster” in a high pitch voice and she’ll start purring and rolling around. Also Sissy (also known as Sissy gumdrop)if my dad whistles she’ll come running toward him. Here’s the names of the other cats i didn’t mention:Jack(Grandpa, the oldest cat we own 13years old),Viking,Bobcat,Hoghead,Moocow,Poopoo(Pepsi),Runt,Airplane ears,Airplane Gunr(Airplane jr.),Fatboy, and Monkey.

Niato

My cat, Niato (Nee-ot-toe), whose name means ‘flat nose’ in Spanish, loves to attack my feet. What’s ironic is that I hate feet! I learned after about the fifth week of having him, that I should wear my shoes around the house, but not my good socks… he might chew those up… but that’s another story…

Hurrican Katrina Survivor

Our cat Boris was lost in Hurricane Katrina. More than six weeks after the storm, a woman located us (we lost our home and had relocated) and said that she had seen our cat. We imediately went to get him and stopped at a gas station on the way back to grab some cat food. This gas station did not carry Boris’ food of choice, Meow Mix Seafood Middles (now Medley). He turned his nose up at every kind of cat food that we offered him, even after being half-starved for 6+ weeks. After our grocer opened back after the storm, they carried Boris’ favorite food. He ate until his little kitty belly couldn’t hold any more. He’d rather starve than eat something other than his Meow Mix!! How he survived after the storm with such a picky taste I do not know, but I’m sure glad that he did! Our family is so greatful to have Boris back.

Nuisance

My little cat Nuisance is a female Calico who was given to me as a birthday gift when she was no more than 8 weeks old. I named her Nuisance because she can be real pesky when she wants something. For example, she loves to play fetch just like a little puppy does. She has these bright pink feathers that she likes to “fetch” and bring back. And, if you don’t throw them she will continously rub all over you ’til you do. When she gets tired of playing she just won’t bring the feathers back. She also likes to get up on the back of the toilet and try to flush when a person is done. She knows where the handle is, she just isn’t strong enough to push it all the way down!
